20 Year Anniversary Celebrations

Last Friday’s celebration of our 20 Year Anniversary was a great success. Our students spent the morning engaging in a range of activities to teach them the significance of St Stephen, the martyr who gave his life for his belief in Jesus. The children also learnt about the story of our companion saints, St Thomas Aquinas, Saint Mary of the Cross MacKillop and St Francis of Assisi. Most importantly our children are encouraged to aspire to follow the example of our saints to live out the teachings of Jesus and to “Walk the St Stephen’s Way”.

Derek Oram Sandy, from the Yerongpan Aboriginal Corporation, commenced our afternoon of liturgical rituals with a Welcome to Country and a traditional smoking ceremony. His deep connection with our land and its flora and fauna was incredibly informative. He provided us with a deep insight into our local ‘country’.

Our students then made their way in total silence from one sacred space to the other in the school hall for an uplifting liturgy which provided us with the opportunity to thank God for our rich 20- year history which has been highlighted by quality staff, happy, hardworking students and supportive parents who work in partnership with the school to provide a holistic catholic education for their children.

Your children participated in the liturgy with reverence and enthusiasm and several of our guests commented on how great they were.

The staff have been working hard with their students on the appropriate behaviours required when gathering. It has paid off and we are very proud of our students.

A sincere word of thanks to the school team for making Friday’s celebration so memorable. And to the many parents who made the effort to join us in worship.
